The IntelliDrug project is supported by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme (Information Society Technologies). Aimed at developing an electronically controlled, intraoral drug delivery system with remote control and replaceable reservoir it provides alternative approach for the treatment of addictions and chronic diseases.

How does the IntelliDrug device work?

The micro-system comprises a medication reservoir and release mechanism, a built-in intelligence, micro-sensors and micro-actuators. The IntelliDrug device is placed in the oral cavity. The medicine is contained in the small reservoir. It is released in a controlled manner according to the patient’s needs over periods lasting days, weeks or months. The device is reloaded in a simple non-invasive way. The released medicine is either absorbed through the oral mucosa or swallowed by the patient.

Why is IntelliDrug an attractive alternative to classic drug delivery systems?

The IntelliDrug device has unique characteristics which make it an ideal alternative to traditional treatment methods like injections and pills. What makes it so special?
